My name is Chris and I am 35 years of age at the time of writing this. When I was young I was always active. I played football almost every day. I cycled everywhere and I did Martial Arts. Being a child I just exercised allot. Something I feel modern life has left behind and I feel for the children growing up these days, fixed to the Television screen or playing computer games. It just wasn’t like that for me growing up. 

I continued this through my early to late teens and I stayed slim and healthy. I loved all sports and took part in as many of them as I could. I started teaching Martial Arts to Prison Officers at the age of thirteen as I had become a black belt at that age and trained with offices who wanted extra tuition. So I decided to take time out to train these guys as well. I continued playing football and training in Martial arts almost on a daily basis until I hit the age of around nineteen.

The main reason being I had left college and had to go and get a real job in the real world. I also discovered alcohol and going out on a weekend with my friends, which usually meant, Thursday Friday and Saturday nights. These always finished with the obligatory fast food on the way home. 

This was the start of my problems! 

Not only had I discovered the weekend and alcohol but working a full time job and trying to fit all the football and the martial arts in was becoming to much. Something had to give and I loved the weekends too much. Maybe you have been through the same right of passage?  

Suddenly I found myself not exercising, but still going out all the time enjoying myself and eating a poor diet. It didn’t take long for things to go "Down Hill Fast" apart from my waistline shall we say!  I carried on like this on and off for years. Well in to my twenties until one day someone very close to me, who never had anything other than kind thoughtful words normally, said something that changed my thinking.

These words came from my mother! She had never made any comments like that ever. This totally shocked me! I had been so blinded by my work and play that I forgot to take a check on what I was doing with my health, and I am sure many of you can associate with that. The very next morning I got up at 5.30am, I put on some trainers, I headed out my from door and I went running. I was physically sick the first few times I tried that. When I first headed out of the door I weighed 15st and I was 5ft 11. Before I stopped all my exercising I weighed under 12st.I continued this horrible routine for ten weeks and also cut my weekend binges down. At the end of the ten weeks I had lost just over 2st. I was so happy with my achievement!!!! 

Hooray For Me!…….Hold your applause for a minute. Life got in the way again for me. Over the next few years this routine fell to the wayside and I gained the weight back, with some interest. I found myself letting my work get in the way and excuses just came to the rescue and that would be reinforced by the guys at the bar because they said the same thing and that made me feel alright about it….for a while.
